FoodMood — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how FoodMood ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use our iOS app and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using FoodMood you agree to this Policy.

1. Who we are

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to operate the Service.

Account information (when you create an account):

  • Email address
  • A hashed password (we never store passwords in plain text)
  • Your subscription tier (free or premium)

Nutrition and profile data (when you use the Service):

  • Meals you log, including descriptions, calories, macronutrients, and any notes or corrections you add
  • Water intake and weight entries
  • Your goal and the body stats you choose to provide (e.g. age, sex, height, weight, activity level), dietary preferences, and unit preference

Meal photos (when you log with the camera):

  • Photos you take or upload are sent securely to our servers and analyzed by an automated nutrition model to estimate calories and macros.
  • Photos are processed to provide the Service. We do not sell them, and we do not use them for advertising. If you add a note to refine an estimate, that note is sent with the image to improve the result.

Apple Health data (only if you connect it):

  • With your permission, FoodMood reads your steps and active energy from Apple Health to power activity-aware features (e.g. "a short walk closes today's gap").
  • Apple Health data is read on your device only. It is never uploaded to our servers, never sold, and never used for advertising or any purpose other than the in-app features you see. You can revoke this access at any time in the iOS Settings → Health.

Purchase information (if you subscribe):

  • Subscription status (active / canceled / expired), provided to us by Apple via RevenueCat after you purchase.
  • We do not receive or store your payment card details. All payments are handled by Apple.

Notifications:

  • If you enable notifications, we use a push device token to deliver reminders and nudges.

Technical information (collected automatically):

  • App version, iOS version, device model
  • Limited diagnostic logs (e.g. error events)

We do not collect your contacts, location, browsing history, or any data we do not actively need to provide the Service.

3. How we use information

We use the information to:

  • Provide the Service (estimate nutrition from photos, track your day, sync your data across sessions)
  • Send notifications you have enabled
  • Maintain, secure, and improve the Service
  • Provide customer support
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your information.

4. How we share information

We share information only with service providers that help us run the Service, and only as needed:

  • Apple — app distribution, in-app purchases, and (if you connect it) Apple Health on your device
  • RevenueCat — subscription status management
  • Resend — transactional email (e.g. account verification, password reset)
  • Cloudflare — security and content delivery

These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms. We do not sell data to data brokers and we do not share it for third-party advertising.

5. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your associated personal data, except where we are required to retain certain records to comply with legal obligations.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Access / correction / deletion: You can delete your account and associated data directly in the app (Settings → Delete Account). You may also contact us at [email protected].
  • Apple Health: You control access in iOS Settings → Health and can revoke it at any time.
  • Notifications: You control these in iOS Settings → Notifications.
  • Subscriptions: Managed through your Apple ID.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to exercise them.

7. Children's privacy

FoodMood is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

8. Security

We protect your information with industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, in-app.
